Senior Fullstack Engineer

Senior Full Stack Engineer

Full-time, Hybrid role in Bristol, UK + Remote

Who we are

Gendo is a VC-backed startup pioneering a new intersection between modern web technology and bleeding edge Generative AI, in order to create a whole new approach to design software for creative professionals.

Our inaugural product is a browser-based platform enabling architects to generate high quality design images within minutes, a process that typically takes days. Our unique platform achieves this through an innovative, elegant 3D frontend (React, WebGL) and a powerful, custom backend harnessing novel machine learning research (diffusion models, image segmentation, and more.)

Our small but growing team comprises high-performing individuals with a genuine passion for the technology, thriving in a dynamic start-up environment. We relish rapidly, hacked-together prototypes as much as we value delivering impressive technical solutions that remain robust in production environments.

“The three most powerful motives are curiosity, delight, and the desire to do something impressive. Sometimes they converge, and that combination is the most powerful of all.”

Paul Graham

You will:

  • Work alongside the CTO and another Full Stack Engineer to design and develop the API and backend services behind our web application, the cloud infrastructure and machine learning inference endpoints + training pipelines.

  • Support development work on the React Frontend applications.

  • Have the autonomy to make key technical decisions and help steer the technical direction and architecture of our products.

  • Help define the future of our engineering culture as the team continues to grow, and heavily influence the direction of our company.

  • Play an active role in testing and improving our generative models.

Who you are

Although we have a clear product roadmap, we work in a fast-paced start-up environment where no two days are the same, and priorities change over time. Having an appreciation and excitement for this way of working is key to succeeding in this role. We require strong communication skills and the ability to question existing technical decisions or company processes to better our combined work as a team.

You are:

  • Highly driven and always strive to produce the highest quality in everything you do.

  • Eager to learn, and curious to explore new product/technical ideas as you spot opportunities.

  • Proactive with your work, taking full ownership of your tasks and their outcomes.

  • Excited to work in a less predictable, more dynamic start-up environment with a strong ability to handle uncertainty.

  • Respectful and supportive of others.

What you’ll bring

We’re always excited to hear about your formal qualifications, but this is not required. Ultimately, we are looking for enthusiastic software engineers who have a demonstrable aptitude for technical design and problem-solving that’s a level above their peers. We’d love to see or hear about any past projects or code contributions that you feel showcase your talents. We do require:

  • Expertise in building and deploying production-level APIs, and integrating with third party APIs (preferably Python).

  • Good knowledge of DevOps best practices and experience applying them (including CI/CD pipelines).

  • Experience writing and maintaining infrastructure-as-code (preferably Terraform).

  • Expertise in cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS).

  • Good understanding of OAuth2 and security best practices for authentication/authorization.

  • Strong technical architecture design skills.

It would be a bonus for you to have:

  • Previous experience with Generative AI (Diffusion models or LLMs.)

  • Knowledge of MLOps and how to maintain machine learning models in production.

  • A keen interest in any design related field (e.g. architecture, product design, UX/UI design, animation etc.).

  • Experience developing modern front end web applications, particularly any featuring WebGL.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: Next.js/React (with Typescript)

  • Backend: Python (APIs and ML services)

  • Database: PostgreSQL

  • Cloud: AWS (Lambda, EC2, ECS, S3, RDS and more)

  • Infrastructure: Terraform (with Terragrunt)

What we offer

This is a full time position, with hybrid working between our Bristol office and remotely from home (in the UK). 3 days a week in the office (currently Tuesday to Thursday).

  • A base salary of between £50k-£80k, depending on experience.

  • Stock options; we firmly believe that you should share our future successes with ownership in the company.

  • 25 days holiday, plus a day off during your birthday week.

  • Comprehensive health insurance

  • Opticians

  • Dentist

  • Travel Insurance

  • Mental Health Support

  • General Healthcare
